sanded EUR-pallet with sawdust (2015)

What if you impose digital aesthetics onto a physical object?

Intrigued by this question I sanded a EUR-pallet by hand over a period of two months. EUR-pallets are mass-produced, standardised objects used for transportation within the European Union and patented by EPAL. Originally a "functional" object, not dependant of the visual, I chose to enhance its appearance making it into a different kind of object with another meaning and expression.

The presence of the work in an exhibition space led me to other questions. Visitors were often caressing the EUR-pallet, because of its smooth surface, and even leaning on it while conversing with others. It seemed to carry a certain invitation for people to interact with it, which was interesting to see.
